Schematic
- The aim of this page is to show how the components of the dynamic web fit together to create a truly global knowledge base.
- To achieve this aim I offer the three schematic diagrams to show how it works from the different perspectives of subscriber, site operations and publisher.
Subscriber View
- The diagram below shows how pages presented to clients of a site can be enhanced with up-to-date values received from other sites under subscription contracts.

Site Operations
- The second diagram, below, shows how information compatible with the global knowledge base is entered, stored and presented to clients at a single site.
- The dynamic web is operated entirely by the independent activities of participating sites executed by a suite of generic software functions that exploit the simplicity that derives from reliance on knowledge grains with inbuilt provenance.
- From the viewpoint of a site owner/designer these activities comprise just two types of operation as follows:
- Upload. This takes values entered through dynamic web input forms and converts them into knowledge grains for storage in the local site knowledge store.
- Download. This updates pages immediately before download by selecting the appropriate value from the local site knowledge store.
Publisher View
- The third diagram, below, shows how a site supports the concept of a global knowledge base by distributing copies of new knowledge grains to other sites in accordance with subscription contracts.

General Comment
- The above diagrams represent my current best endeavor to express the concept of a dynamic web based on a truly global knowledge base. Having due regard for the difficulty inherent in the sharing of new ideas, I am keen to receive criticism of these diagrams so that I can learn how to improve their clarity.
